Filming Chineese Documentary "Legends of the Fruits" SE2E07 - The Creative Mind

This autumn, I was invited by a Chinese filming crew from Shanghai Media Group to take part in a Chinese documentary series called Legends of the Fruits, the Creative Mind episode (SE2E07).

The season is planned to shot with cutting edge cinematic technologies to show the magic world of fruits. First season of the show was extremly popular in China and was viewed over 200 million times. The documentary is invested by the Documentary Channel of Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and it has been scheduled to broadcast on national channels, including China Central Television (CCTV), Shanghai TV Station, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, and Tencet video - Chinese equivalent of YouTube.

The Creative Mind episode talks about people’s creative works through fruits. The episode includes five unique stories about:

  1. “Arcimboldiana” by a Polish artist Anna Tokarska, the fruit & vegetables portraits inspired by the XVI painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo https://www.instagram.com/arcimboldiana/

  2. Cédric Grolet - world-famous French pastry chef known for his realistic-looking desserts, who recently collaborated with Dominique Ansel in New York City https://www.instagram.com/cedricgrolet/

  3. “A Tree of 40 Fruit” by New York-based artist & Proffesor, Sam Van Aken - a series of fruit trees created by using the technique of grafting. Each tree produces forty types of stone fruit (including peaches, apricots, almonds, plums, cherries and nectarines), of the genus Prunus, ripening sequentially from July to October in the United States https://www.instagram.com/p/BkSHy3Rg1g8/

  4. La Tomatina Festival that is held in the Valencian town of Buñol, in the East of Spain 30 kilometres (19 mi) from the Mediterranean, in which participants throw tomatoes and get involved in a tomato fight purely for entertainment purposes. Since 1945 it has been held on the last Wednesday of August, during a week of festivities in Buñol. https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/382031238/la-tomatina/

For three continious days we shot scenes around the house; the creative process and inspiration behind the Arcimboldiana series. Together we have visited: the fresh food market in my hometown, certified printing lab CMC Photo Consulting where the artworks are printed, the City Gallery in Wrocław and Za Szafą Gallery, the home to Polish Association of Art Photographers of Lower Silesia District.

The documentary is expected to be released between spring/autumn 2019. Will keep you updated!
